Paedophile who sexually assaulted child and hoarded thousands of indecent images is jailed

Portsmouth Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Child Sexual Abuse

A Portsmouth man, Stephen Newell (48) of St Mary's Road, London, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for sexually abusing a child and possessing thousands of indecent images. Newell came to the attention of authorities earlier this year when an online account linked to him uploaded an indecent image of a child.

An investigation by the Internet Child Abuse Team led to the seizure of devices belonging to Newell, including a laptop and mobile phones, which contained inappropriate content. The investigation revealed that Newell had also sexually abused a boy under the age of 13.

Newell was arrested in February and charged with multiple offenses, including taking and making indecent photographs of children, distributing indecent images, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, and sexual assault of a child under 13. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced today (Friday, July 16th) at Portsmouth Crown Court.

DC Stephen Hill, officer in charge of the case, stated: "The sexual abuse of children causes unfathomable damage, and I hope this sentence provides some justice for the victim, who will continue to receive support from partner services." He emphasized the seriousness of sexual assault reports and the commitment of the police to bringing offenders to justice.
