Sex Offender Jailed for Breaching Sexual Harm Prevention Order

Stephen Pennington, 34, of Gorton Street, Blackpool, was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday, March 16, for breaching his sexual harm prevention order.

Pennington was initially jailed in 2009 after raping a child. As part of his sentence, he was issued a sexual harm prevention order, prohibiting him from contacting anyone under the age of 18.

Between September and December of last year, Pennington engaged in a relationship with a woman and was in contact with her children, violating the terms of his order. He further breached the order by providing the false name Stephen Johnson, a name not registered with police.

Pennington went missing and became a wanted individual by police before being apprehended in December. Following charges and a court hearing, he was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

Det Sgt Sam Johnson of Blackpool Police stated: "While there is no evidence suggesting Pennington harmed or abused the children he interacted with, he was fully aware his actions violated his order. He even used a false name to conceal his identity. He deceived the woman involved, residing with her family in blatant disregard for his sexual harm prevention order."

He added: "We consistently manage registered sexual offenders, and this case serves as a reminder that we will always monitor their behavior. Any breach of your order could result in a prison sentence."
