Man Jailed for 10 Years for Sexually Abusing Four-Year-Old Girl
Stephen Walker, 56, from Walton Cardiff, near Tewkesbury, was found guilty of assaulting a child aged under thirteen. He worked as a childminding assistant at the time of the abuse.
The young victim used dolls to illustrate to the jury how Walker abused her while taking her to the toilet. The girl reportedly told her mother that her "middle hurt," referring to her genitals, and that Walker had hurt her while taking her to the toilet.
Judge Ian Lawrie KC praised the victim for her "compelling evidence," delivered via video link to Gloucester Crown Court. He described her testimony as "clear and precise" and said she spoke without hesitation.
Walker denied the allegations in his police interview, claiming he did not take girls to the toilet "to prevent allegations such as this." He also stated that the victim often sought cuddles from him.
The nursery where Walker worked has ceased trading due to the allegations. Walker was sentenced to 10 years in prison and is barred from contact with children under 18 indefinitely. He must also register as a sex offender for life.
Det Con David Escolme from Gloucestershire Police praised the victim and their family for their "amazing strength and courage" throughout the trial.
