Man Escapes Prison After Installing Spy Cam in Staff Bedroom, Denying Voyeurism

Steven Bradley, a former care home worker, has been spared prison despite installing a hidden camera in a staff bedroom and possessing indecent images of children. Bradley initially claimed the spy camera was not working, but police found footage of him installing it, revealing his lie.

The 47-year-old admitted to voyeurism but denied possessing the indecent images found on his wife's iPad and another computer device. However, a jury convicted him last month, rejecting his claim that he was unaware of the child abuse material. Judge Michael Gledhill KC, summing up the case, humorously dismissed Bradley's defense, stating that there was no such thing as a "porn fairy" responsible for the material.

On August 11, Bradley returned to Oxford Crown Court, where he received a six-month suspended prison sentence and 150 hours of unpaid work. Prosecutor Brian Reece revealed that Bradley had contacted a colleague in 2021, apologizing for "betraying her trust" and stating she would not see him again. This came after he had hidden the spy camera in the staff bedroom.

The court also heard that Bradley had confessed to another female colleague that he was "into her," inquiring about his chances with her. Despite the seriousness of his crimes, Bradley's defense attorney, James Hay, argued that his client suffered from an "adjustment disorder," a mental health condition affecting his ability to cope with stress. His partner stood by him.

Judge Gledhill expressed his disappointment that Bradley had not accepted legal advice and pleaded guilty to the charges, deeming his defense "complete nonsense." He emphasized that Bradley was the only one who could have placed the child abuse images on his devices.

As a result of his convictions, Bradley, of Haydon Road, Didcot, will remain on the sex offender register for seven years. He also received a sexual harm prevention order limiting his internet access.
