Cowardly Sex Offender Jailed for 10 Years

A cowardly sex offender who groomed a teenage girl has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Thomas Todd, 32, befriended the victim and showered her with gifts before sexually assaulting her in 2017.

The victim bravely came forward to police in May 2018 after confiding in her mother about Todd's abuse. Despite the victim's courage, Todd denied his crimes and forced her to endure a trial and lengthy court proceedings.

Adding to his cowardly behavior, Todd absconded from court during the final days of the trial. A manhunt ensued, leading to his apprehension in Scotland. Todd, currently incarcerated at HMP Nottingham, was found guilty of sexual assault and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court.

He was sentenced to a total of 10 years imprisonment on Friday, 1 December. Todd's predatory actions began in the summer of 2017 when he started sending the victim messages, constantly inquiring about her whereabouts and companions.

The victim revealed to detectives that Todd treated her like "his girlfriend" despite being aware of her age. He lavished her with gifts and took advantage of her when they were alone, committing the sexual assault.
