Pensioner Jailed for Attempted Rape of 12-Year-Old

A 76-year-old pensioner who intended to rape a 12-year-old girl was jailed for three years and seven months. William Meehan, of Kirkby, travelled to a swimming pool in Preston to meet up with a girl he believed to be named "Jess".

Meehan, who used online usernames like "Scouser2020" and "BillyKirkby," engaged in sexually explicit conversations with "Jess," who was actually an undercover police officer. He told her he was 35 and expressed interest in "making love" to her.

On the day of their planned meeting, Meehan brought a bottle of Blue WKD, a bottle opener, a glass, and a Viagra tablet. He was arrested in the car park of the leisure centre.

Police found 22 extreme porn bestiality files on his laptop. Meehan admitted to two counts of attempted sexual communication with a child and possessing extreme porn. He initially denied attempting to facilitate a child sex offense but later pleaded guilty.

During the trial, Meehan claimed he did not intend to have "penetrative sexual intercourse" with the girl, but this claim was rejected by the judge.

Judge David Swinnerton said Meehan had planned and "thought through" his actions, including bringing the WKD and Viagra. He said: "I am absolutely sure you intended to take a 12-year-old back home for sexual intercourse."

Meehan will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.
