William Quigg: Former Scout Leader Who Sexually Abused Two Boys Dies In Jail

Former Renfrewshire Scout Leader and Foster Parent William Quigg Passes Away While Serving Sentence for Sexual Abuse

William Quigg, an 83-year-old former Scout leader and foster parent from Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire, has died in prison. Quigg was sentenced to 10 years in 2019 after being convicted of sexually abusing two children between 1980 and 1986 at two addresses in Glasgow.

Quigg admitted to sexually abusing one boy when the victim was between 12 and 15 years old but denied raping the other boy and sexually abusing him from the age of 12 to 16. It is important to note that neither of the victims were Scouts at the time of the abuse.

At his sentencing at Livingston High Court, Quigg was informed that his name would remain on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely. A fatal accident inquiry will be conducted following Quigg's death at HMP Dumfries.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Prison Service expressed their condolences, stating: "Every death, whether in prison custody or in our communities, is a tragedy for all those who knew and supported the individual. Following the death of someone in our care, Police Scotland are advised, and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Fatal Accident Inquiries are held in due course."
