Campaign of sexual offending against a girl whom he treated like an object.
Dangerous Sexual Predator Jailed for Grooming and Abusing Teenage Girl
Zack Hosking, 26, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Truro Crown Court for a campaign of sexual abuse against a 15-year-old girl. Hosking, who previously resided in Camborne and later in Plymouth, pleaded guilty to nine counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
The court heard how Hosking had groomed the victim, who he had known since she was young, with gifts and affection before engaging in sexual activity with her on multiple occasions in 2020. Hosking's actions included pressuring the victim into sending him sexually explicit videos and performing sexual acts on him. He also bought her alcohol and chocolate and encouraged her to engage in sexual intercourse despite her initial reluctance.
Prosecutor Mary McCarthy described Hosking's behavior as controlling and manipulative, stating that he treated the victim "like an object, not a human being." She highlighted the emotional and psychological damage inflicted upon the victim, who has experienced trust issues and breakdowns as a result of the abuse.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Simon Carr emphasized the severity of Hosking's crimes, describing them as "the systematic sexual abuse of a child." He condemned Hosking's grooming tactics and his disregard for the victim's well-being.
Detective Constable Shortern, the investigating officer, commended the victim's courage in coming forward and bringing Hosking to justice. He emphasized the police's commitment to addressing child sexual exploitation and encouraged others to report similar incidents.
