Man Jailed for Pressing Groin Against Pregnant Woman on London Underground

A 25-year-old man, Zane Donovan, has been sentenced to nine months in prison and issued a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for sexually assaulting a pregnant woman on a London Underground train.

Donovan, from White Gardens, Dagenham, pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday, June 22nd. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years and was given a 5-year SHPO prohibiting him from attempting to speak to any unknown female in public places, including on public transport.

The incident occurred on Friday, March 25th, at 6:30 PM when the victim boarded a Victoria Line train at Green Park station. She immediately felt a man pressing his groin against her from behind for approximately 20 seconds.

When the victim confronted him, Donovan responded with, "How do you want me to stand, I got no space," before leaving the train at Victoria station. He was arrested several days later following CCTV inquiries.

Detective Constable Brittany Armstrong of the British Transport Police (BTP) stated, "This incident was particularly alarming and distressing for the victim, and I'm pleased to see Donovan behind bars for such inappropriate behavior." She continued, "Some people may not consider pressing a sexual offence, or serious enough to report, especially in a crowded environment. However, in the eyes of the law, this is sexual assault, and offenders will be caught and punished accordingly."

The BTP encourages anyone who experiences or witnesses similar behavior on the network to report it by texting 61016 or alerting an officer. "We will always take you seriously," the BTP emphasized.
