Violent Sex Offender's Sentence Extended for Assault and Abuse

Zeshan Akhtar, 36, has had his seven-year prison sentence extended by three months after he assaulted a vulnerable person and verbally abused a bus driver in Milton Keynes.

Akhtar, who was already serving time for sexually assaulting a teenager, pleaded guilty to the new charges at Wycombe Magistrates' Court on June 30.

The assault on the vulnerable woman occurred on March 10, 2022, while the abusive behavior towards the bus driver took place on December 2, 2020.

Akhtar had initially denied the charges but changed his plea at the hearing in June. The magistrates added the three months to his existing sentence, which he received on May 5 at Luton Crown Court for two counts of sexual assault and one count of assault by penetration.

The court heard how Akhtar had approached a distressed teenage girl in Bedford town centre on August 16, 2021, attempting to kiss her. When she tried to run away, he grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. He then walked her home, holding her hand, and assaulted her again just 160 yards from her home.

Akhtar was found guilty by a jury after denying the charges against him.

DC Katie Tavener, the investigating officer in the case, stated, "No woman or girl should ever be made to feel scared and helpless. Akhtar took advantage of a situation to sexually assault a vulnerable young girl. When she said no, he ignored her, and no will always mean no. The victim showed true bravery by coming forward and reporting what had happened."
