Zyroam Allen

Age: 19

Town: London

Convicted: 11/10/2023

Eighteen year old sex offender who committed ten offences including rape and sexual assault.

An 18-year-old male has been jailed for 10 sexual offences, including rape, after a tireless investigation by Metropolitan Police officers.

Zyroam Allen, from Hackney, was 17 years old when he committed the string of sex attacks on 10 different women across east London. He was sentenced last week at Wood Green Magistrate's Court to just 4 years in prison.

Allen pleaded guilty to all offences, including the rape of one woman, seven sexual assaults, and exposing himself to another woman. Despite the horrendous ordeal his victims endured, he will be back on the streets in just 4 years.

Police officers from across the capital worked tirelessly to catch Allen. They analyzed over 400 hours of CCTV footage, took multiple statements, and conducted detailed forensic testing. Their efforts ultimately led to Allen's conviction.

One of Allen's victims, who has shown remarkable bravery throughout this ordeal, praised the police and the thoroughness of the investigation. She also spoke openly about the lasting impact the attacks have had on her life.

"I no longer run along the canal as I do not feel safe," she said. "I won't even go for a walk if I am by myself, as I find it too stressful. It makes me really angry that I can't enjoy the area I live in now. This person has taken that away from me and I do not think I will ever get that back."

Her life as it was is gone, yet Allen will be walking the streets again soon. This raises critical questions about justice for victims of sexual violence. Why does it feel like these offenses carry so little weight in our society? What deterrent does a 4-year sentence offer to potential offenders?

While we commend the Metropolitan Police for their thorough investigation, the 4-year sentence for Allen's crimes is a stark reminder of the ongoing problem of underpunishment for sexual offenses against women.

We must acknowledge the courage of the women who came forward to report Allen. Their bravery is an inspiration, and their experiences should serve as a wake-up call to address the systemic issues that contribute to the underreporting and underpunishment of sexual violence.
