Northampton Man Sentenced to 16 Years for Child Rape

A Northampton man, Aaron Oxlade (32), has been sentenced to 16 years and four months in prison for raping a child. The offense came to light when the victim disclosed the abuse to her mother, as revealed in Northampton Crown Court on Monday, July 17.

Oxlade, formerly of Spenfield Court, remained silent during police questioning, offering only "no comment" to all inquiries. However, the court heard that he made "significant comments" regarding the potential sentence he might receive.

Pamela Brain, representing Oxlade, described him as a "timid character" who has found prison "very difficult." She stated that Oxlade is "very keen" to participate in any rehabilitation programs available during his imprisonment.

Oxlade's family, including his parents and other relatives, were present at the sentencing hearing. Ms. Brain, speaking on behalf of Oxlade's mother, said, "She was absolutely shocked and horrified by all of this but, obviously, he is her son so she supports him."

His Honour Judge David Herbert KC, delivering the sentence, stated, "You should be thoroughly ashamed of what you have done. It has become clear to me that is not so."

Oxlade, having pleaded guilty to the charges, was sentenced to 11 years and four months in prison with an extended licence period of five years. This sentence totals 16 years and four months. Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order were imposed indefinitely.
