Abbas Ahmed Found Guilty of Sexually Assaulting Vulnerable Woman After Following Her Home From Night Out
A sexual predator followed a vulnerable woman as she got a taxi home from a night out before assaulting her for over an hour in a dark alleyway.
Abbas Ahmed, 32, was convicted of sexually assaulting the young woman after following her from a taxi. CCTV footage captured Ahmed stalking the woman as she walked home alone after getting out of an Uber. The victim had been out with friends in Fallowfield when they ordered an Uber for her. Ahmed then followed them closely before leading the intoxicated woman to a secluded alleyway.
During the assault, which lasted for an hour according to CCTV footage, the woman was seen stumbling out of the alleyway disoriented. Ahmed's DNA was later found on the victim's genitals. The victim reported feeling fear, anxiety, and sadness as a result of the assault, stating that she struggled with friendships and now feels unsafe around men.
Judge Patrick Field KC sentenced Ahmed as a "dangerous offender", highlighting the premeditation and vulnerability of the victim. He received 50 months imprisonment with an extended licence period of 48 months. Ahmed was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order until further order.
