Kent Man Jailed for Rape and Sexual Abuse of Young Girls
A 49-year-old man from Kent has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for rape and the sexual abuse of young girls dating back to the 1980s. Abraham Lee, of South Street, Canterbury, was found guilty of eight offences of indecent assault, one offence of indecency with a child and rape.
Judge Adele Williams, presiding over the sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court, stated that Lee had been convicted on clear and compelling evidence. She expressed hope that during his sentence, Lee would acknowledge his offenses and seek help available to him in prison and upon release.
"There is no doubt you like to sexually indulge yourself with little girls, the evidence could not be clearer," Judge Williams remarked.
Despite his conviction, Lee maintains his denials, according to his barrister, Christopher Sutton-Mattocks. As a result, no remorse could be expressed on his behalf.
Sutton-Mattocks highlighted that Lee had led a seemingly blameless life and his lack of education and literacy had not prevented him from working. He also noted the support Lee received from his family.
As part of his sentence, Lee will be subject to a sexual offences prevention order, prohibiting him from living in a household with a child under 16 or having such a child at his premises without parental or guardian presence. He will also be placed on the sex offenders' register for life and banned from working with children.
Judge Williams commended the investigating officers for their thorough and meticulous inquiry.
