60 offences relating to sexual abuse and torture of animals and possession of child abuse material.
Adam Robert Corden Britton (born c.?1970) is a British-born Australian crocodile expert who was charged in September 2023 with 60 offenses related to sexual abuse and torture of animals and possession of child abuse material.
Britton's offending began in 2014 and he was arrested in September 2022. A suppression order was placed on his name until he pleaded guilty in September 2023.
He had searched for dogs on the website Gumtree Australia, claiming to rehome them. He told their former owners the dogs were thriving in his care, when in fact he had already sexually abused and killed them. He is known to have sexually abused 42 dogs, of which 39 died.
As of September 25, 2023, Britton faces 60 charges, which relate to using child abuse material as well as bestiality. He has pleaded guilty to all charges. Sentencing was initially scheduled for December 2023 but was postponed to February 2024, then again to May 2024, and finally to July 11, 2024 due to the presiding judge's scheduling conflicts. It was postponed once more until August 8, 2024.
On August 8, 2024, Britton was sentenced to 10 years and five months in prison, with a non-parole period of six years. His sentence was backdated to his arrest in April 2022. He was also banned from purchasing animals and having them on his property.
Judge Grant stated that Britton's conduct "… involved a degree of depravity and reprehensibility which falls entirely outside any ordinary human conception and comprehension."
In a letter written from prison and read by his lawyer, Britton stated he took "full responsibility for the demeaning crimes" acted upon the dogs. He also stated "I deeply regret the pain and trauma that I caused innocent families and consequently to my family, friends and members of the community affected." "I let you all down. I'm truly sorry. I now acknowledge that I've been fighting a rare paraphilic disorder for much of my life. And that shame and fear prevented me from seeking the proper help I needed." Britton wrote that he would seek "long-term treatment."
