Alexander Wilson: Former Police Worker Jailed For Rape and Abuse of Young Girl

A former police worker, Alexander Wilson, has been sentenced to 20 years for raping and abusing a young girl over a seven-year period.

Swansea Crown Court heard that the abuse began when the girl was around five years old and continued until she was twelve. Wilson, who previously worked for South Wales Police and British Transport Police, denied the charges but was convicted by a jury after a trial where his victim bravely gave evidence.

Prosecuting barrister Mark Wyeth KC described Wilson as "cruel and emotionally manipulative" towards the child. The abuse finally came to light when the girl sent her mother a pre-arranged codeword via text message, indicating she was in danger. Upon questioning, the girl disclosed the horrific abuse.

Judge Recorder Richard Booth KC acknowledged the severe psychological harm Wilson inflicted on his victim, stating that he would have considered a life sentence if not for mitigating factors. He deemed Wilson a dangerous offender and imposed an extended sentence of 20 years, comprising 17 years in custody followed by a three-year licence period.

Wilson will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order restricting his access to children. Detective Constable Chris Medlicott from South Wales Police emphasized Wilson's predatory nature, stating that he "disgustingly took advantage of a child" and that the damage caused by his actions would be "incalculable."
