Man Jailed for 12 Years for Rape of Manchester Student
Ali Majid Kadir, aged 21 of Upper Chorlton Road, Whalley Range, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for each of three counts of rape. The sentences will run concurrently. He has also been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
The attack took place on Sunday, September 21, 2008, when the 20-year-old victim, who was walking home after visiting a friend in Longsight, asked Kadir and another man for directions. The three of them walked together for an hour before arriving at Alexandra Park, where Kadir and his accomplice began drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis.
The victim, feeling uncomfortable, attempted to leave but was grabbed, stripped naked, and repeatedly raped. After the attack, she managed to get dressed and hail a taxi that took her to the Queen of Hearts pub on Wilmslow Road, where a friend found her in a distressed state.
Police were called, and an investigation led to Kadir's arrest and subsequent conviction. DNA evidence obtained from the victim matched Kadir's, confirming his involvement in the crime.
Detective Constable Charlotte Nutter, of Longsight CID, stated that the victim was vulnerable and Kadir took advantage of the situation to carry out a brutal attack. She expressed hope that the sentence would provide some measure of closure for the victim, who is still haunted by the trauma.
Police are still actively seeking Mamand Rasoulpour, the other man involved in the attack.
