Sex Offender Jailed for Attacking Woman

Andrew Matthews, a convicted sex offender, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for assaulting a woman in a horrific attack that left her bruised, crying, and suffering from anxiety and panic attacks.

During the assault, Matthews, who has a history of violence against women, made the disturbing comment that he was a "black belt" in attacking women. He then forcefully grabbed the victim's genitals, causing her pain and bruising.

The court heard that Matthews had also grabbed the victim by the neck, spat in her face, and punched her, although the punch did not result in any physical injury.

Matthews has a long criminal history, with 19 previous convictions for 24 offenses, including battery against a woman. While his defense attorney acknowledged the severity of the offenses, he stressed that Matthews had no prior history of sexual offending and had completed a 12-step program to address his drinking while in custody.

Judge Louise Brandon, sentencing Matthews, highlighted the particularly disgusting nature of his spitting at the victim. She ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
