Convicted Sex Offender Sentenced to Life for Stabbing Woman
Brandon Bloice, a convicted sex offender, has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing a 23-year-old woman in the back. Bloice, 23, was found guilty of attempted murder with intent to rape and threatening and abusive behaviour.
The attack occurred in Carpenter Street, Perth, minutes after Bloice followed another woman who ran away. He stabbed his victim in the back and planned to rape her before fleeing when she shouted for help.
Bloice was given an Order for Lifelong Restriction, meaning he will only be freed when authorities deem him no longer a risk to the public. Judge Gillian Wade QC warned Bloice that he may never be freed.
"This was an abhorrent and pre-meditated assault," said Judge Wade. "These events occurred against a background of established sexual offending and stringent monitoring, but you failed to comply with the measures put in place to protect the public."
The High Court in Glasgow heard that the victim was walking to a local shop at around 00:40 when she felt a sharp pain in her back. She turned around and saw Bloice, screaming for help and calling for the police.
Bloice fled towards Perth Concert Hall and was apprehended in a city hostel the following day. During a search of his room, officers discovered phones and a tablet device. Analysis revealed Bloice had searched online for terms like "how to kills (sic) a woman stabbing" and "can a dead woman still get pregnant."
Ronnie Renucci, Bloice's defense attorney, acknowledged the disturbing nature of background reports on his client. "It will be entirely up to him if he engages with the authorities to try and improve his situation," said Renucci.
