A "DEPRAVED" man watched babies being abused while bragging to other about sexual acts he wanted to carry out on youngsters.

Chris Hatherley, a 35-year-old resident of Arnheim Road, Bassett, was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, for his involvement in online child abuse material.

Hatherley admitted to viewing live streams of indecent material on online platforms, engaging in conversations with other users, and requesting videos of children crying as a result of sexual assault.

The court heard that the victims ranged in age from babies to children between two and three years old. Hatherley's actions came to light after police searched his home, seizing his computers and mobile phone.

While no indecent images were found, police discovered disturbing communications on apps like 'Kick' where Hatherley expressed his enjoyment of the material and described the acts he desired to perform.

In his interview, Hatherley acknowledged his addiction to drugs and claimed he was unaware of how he became involved in this behavior.

Hatherley's defense attorney argued that his actions were a result of drug addiction and that he was deeply ashamed of his behavior. Hatherley had since sought help to address his addiction and stop his offending.

Judge Nicholas Rowland emphasized the severity of the crime and the impact it has on victims, stating that people who view this material are directly contributing to the abuse of children.

As part of his sentence, Hatherley must complete 45 days of rehabilitation activity requirements and 150 hours of unpaid work. He also faces a 10-year ban from using chat rooms.
