Preparing to meet what he thought was an underage girl for sex.
Man Arrested for Attempted Child Sex Offence
A 37-year-old man's plan to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex was thwarted when he was intercepted by police and arrested in Nuneaton town centre on June 14th.
Christopher Aubertin, of Edward Street, Nuneaton, had initiated contact with the "girl" the day before, sending indecent images of himself. However, the girl was not real and police were alerted to the situation.
Aubertin had also engaged in online conversations with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old girl. A search of his home resulted in the seizure of cannabis.
While in police custody, Aubertin smeared his own faeces on the cell walls and threatened to throw urine at officers.
Aubertin pleaded guilty to attempting to engage a child in sexual communication, arranging the commission of a child sex offence, possession of cannabis, and criminal damage.
At Warwick Crown Court last week, Aubertin was sentenced to a total of three-and-a-half years in prison. He was also issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to prevent future offenses and placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
Detective Constable Stephen Reading from Nuneaton CID stated: "Aubertin clearly poses a danger to young girls; he belongs in prison. Social media and phones can leave children vulnerable to individuals seeking to exploit their innocence and trust. We urge parents to discuss online safety with their children and ensure they know who they are communicating with. Protecting young people from harm is a top priority for us, and we will relentlessly pursue offenders like Aubertin to ensure they face justice."
