Teacher Avoids Jail for Online Sex Act

Christopher Daniels, a former IT tutor at Lossiemouth High School in Moray, has been sentenced to a two-year community payback order for performing a sex act in front of a 15-year-old schoolboy over a webcam.

Daniels, 29, admitted to the offense last month, along with possessing indecent images of children. The incident occurred on July 2, 2022, during a video call from his home in Lossiemouth. The boy's mother contacted police after discovering messages between her son and Daniels on their family computer.

Grampian Police officers searched Daniels' home in January 2023, leading to his arrest. While Daniels' career as a teacher has ended, his solicitor, Stephen Carty, argued that this punishment was already significant.

Sheriff Susan Raeburn ordered Daniels to participate in a sex offenders program and be supervised for two years. He will also remain on the sex offenders register for two years.

A spokesperson for Moray Council confirmed that Daniels left his job at the school before the case concluded and is no longer employed by the council. The General Teaching Council has banned him from working at any school.
