Man Jailed for Sexual Assault of 14-Year-Old Babysitter

A 25-year-old man, Christopher Gouldsbrough, has been sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old babysitter.

The incident occurred in August of last year at Gouldsbrough's home in Trowbridge. The girl was staying overnight after babysitting Gouldsbrough's and his partner's child. After returning home from a night out, Gouldsbrough and his partner went to bed, leaving the girl to sleep on the sofa.

Gouldsbrough later returned to the sofa, claiming he was getting a drink of water. He then began to touch the girl inappropriately, despite her repeated pleas for him to stop. The prosecution argued that the girl did not consent to the sexual activity.

The court heard that the victim suffered significant emotional distress as a result of the assault, including self-harm and fear of pregnancy.

Gouldsbrough initially pleaded not guilty to rape and sexual assault, but ultimately admitted to a charge of sexual activity with a child.

In his defense, Gouldsbrough expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he was intoxicated at the time and had lost his job and relationship as a result of the incident.

Judge Tim Mousley QC condemned Gouldsbrough's actions, emphasizing the lasting impact on the victim. He imposed a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order prohibiting contact between Gouldsbrough and the girl for 10 years.

The NSPCC issued a statement condemning the assault and expressing concern for the victim, who will require support to recover from the traumatic experience.
