A young father has been jailed for downloading child pornography featuring children as young as three.

Christopher Thomas Kelly, 30, was caught with the sickening stash at his home in Paisley, Renfrewshire. He was arrested and charged over the horrific cache of abuse files, which included a video of a three-year-old girl.

Kelly pleaded guilty at Paisley Sheriff Court to taking, or allowing indecent photographs of children to be taken, by downloading them between February 16, 2014, and November 18, 2015. The charge was amended to change the date of the offense.

The court heard that Kelly downloaded a total of 1,733 indecent images, including 1,725 pictures and eight films. Of these, 227 were classified as being in the most extreme category.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew sentenced Kelly to 12 months in prison and placed him on the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years. He ruled that there was no suitable sentence other than imprisonment.
