Child Rapist Jailed for 15 Years

A child rapist has been jailed for 15 years after he was convicted of sex assaults on children under the age of 13 years old. He was also convicted of sexual assaults by penetration and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Daniel Atkins, 33, of Bridgend, committed the most recent of his offenses in 2022, but investigations revealed the abuse had been ongoing for six years.

A report was made to police, and the defendant was arrested on May 7 last year. Atkins, of Clos Chwarel, Wildmill, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday and received a sentence of 15 years imprisonment. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Following the hearing, Detective Constable Leah Fox said, "I want to pay tribute to the extreme bravery of the victims during the investigation. Their courage in reporting this sickening abuse to the police resulted in the conviction and lengthy sentence for Atkins."

"We also encourage any other complainants to come forward and report offenses that may have been committed against them. Violence against women and girls is one of South Wales Police's main priorities, and this investigation highlights our commitment to securing convictions for such offenses."
