Raped and strangled a woman in a violent attack.
Man Jailed for Rape and Strangulation in Barking
Daniel Jordan, 28, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the rape and strangulation of a woman in an alleyway behind a row of shops in Barking.
Jordan was identified through DNA evidence and is a known offender. The violent and sustained attack occurred in October 2022, and the victim has received support from a team specializing in investigating sexual offenses.
The victim called police to report the attack, stating that she had been raped and that her attacker had fled the scene. Officers immediately responded and took steps to care for the victim and collect evidence.
She described the attacker as a man who had approached her and quickly began a physical and sexual assault in an alleyway behind a parade of shops on Longbridge Road. She detailed how he had strangled her, causing her to lose consciousness.
Detective Sergeant Charlie Yexley, who works in the Met Police's east London office investigating sexual offenses, said: "This was a horrendous attack, and I have the utmost respect for the victim survivor, as she has worked to come to terms with the extreme violence she was subjected to. She has demonstrated grace and tenacity through this trial, and I hope it brings some comfort that a jury unequivocally saw this man for what he is."
Officers arrested Jordan at his home seven days after the attack. He was charged and remanded the next day.
At Snaresbrook Crown Court on March 15, Jordan was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment with an extended license period of five years. He received a 30-month sentence for both non-fatal strangulation and assault, to be served concurrently. He will also be on the sex offenders' register for life.
