Sexual relationship with a teenage girl who was 10 years younger than him.
A man has been jailed for a sexual relationship with a teenage girl.
Daniel Outing, 32, was 24 when he became sexually involved with a 14-year-old girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Norwich Crown Court heard that Outing encouraged the girl not to attend school and warned her not to disclose their sexual encounters, which took place in the Wroxham area.
Matthew Edwards, prosecuting, said police were informed after the victim confided in a family member about the relationship.
Outing was arrested, and his devices were seized, revealing over 700 indecent images of children, including 102 Category A images – the most serious – depicting children between two and four years old. The devices also contained 247 extreme pornographic images featuring a woman and animals.
Outing, of no fixed abode, appeared in court on Thursday to be sentenced after admitting six counts of sexual activity with a child between April 2017 and July 2018.
He also admitted three counts of making indecent images of a child and possession of extreme pornographic images. Additionally, Outing admitted failing to inform police of his homelessness, an offense related to notification requirements.
The victim provided a statement to the court, stating she hadn't realized the seriousness and wrongfulness of the situation at the time.
She explained that Outing had encouraged her to leave school early so they could be together and had warned her against disclosing their relationship, threatening consequences for both of them.
The victim stated the experience had negatively impacted her mental health, leading to anxiety and depression, and that she couldn't move on with her life until the court case concluded.
Judge Andrew Shaw imposed an extended 10-year sentence on Outing, comprising six years in custody and four years on license, declaring him a dangerous offender posing a significant risk of serious harm to other young girls.
Judge Shaw noted the substantial psychological harm inflicted on the victim.
Andrew Thompson, representing Outing, stated the defendant pleaded guilty at the earliest possible stage in the crown court proceedings.
He highlighted Outing's lack of previous offenses of this nature and limited criminal history.
Thompson acknowledged the relationship's inappropriateness and emphasized that it "should not have happened."
Thompson also noted the significant delay in the case and stated that Outing, who has dyslexia, is "disgusted... with the benefit of hindsight" and has recognized "the error of his ways."
Judge Shaw also imposed an indefinite restraining order prohibiting Outing from contacting his victim.
Outing was placed on the sex offenders register for life and subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).
