Sex Offender Jailed for Hiding in Wheelie Bin After Assaulting Teenage Girl

David Harcombe, 39, has been jailed for two years after being caught hiding inside a wheelie bin following a sexual assault on a teenage girl in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

The incident occurred on May 7, 2023, on Nuncargate Road. Harcombe had followed the girl from a park and grabbed her at approximately 8:30 PM. He was apprehended by officers shortly after the assault.

Harcombe also pleaded guilty to another sexual assault that took place six days prior. He had followed and grabbed a different teenage girl in Nuncargate Park. This incident was reported to police after the victim confided in a work colleague.

Despite initially denying the offenses, Harcombe's guilt was established through CCTV footage and a thorough investigation by Nottinghamshire Police detectives.

At Nottingham Crown Court on August 24, Harcombe was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to two counts of sexual assault.

Detective Constable Harry Glass stated, "Both incidents were extremely distressing for the victims, who were simply walking down the street when they were followed and grabbed by Harcombe. We commend their bravery in helping to identify their attacker and bring him to justice."

Glass also expressed hope that the sentence would provide reassurance to the community and serve as a warning to others. He emphasized that the police are dedicated to tracking down and holding accountable those who commit such offenses.
