Former Brixham engineer jailed for child sex abuse
David McVicker, 60, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the horrific sexual abuse of a child.
Exeter Crown Court heard that McVicker subjected the young girl to multiple assaults. He denied six allegations against a child under 13, but was found guilty by a jury earlier this month.
During sentencing on Friday, January 21, Judge Timothy Rose stated, "You did it, you kept doing it and you abused the victim on repeated occasions."
The court heard that police became involved after the victim confided in her mother about the abuse. In a victim impact statement, the mother described the emotional trauma her daughter has endured as a result.
Defense attorney Ms Heather Hope argued that McVicker had been a hard worker throughout his life and never anticipated facing imprisonment at his age. She also highlighted the difficulties he has experienced while on remand.
Judge Rose imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order on McVicker and added him to the sex offenders register. "You have committed serious offences of an extremely serious character," the judge emphasized. "The sentence has to reflect that."
McVicker will be required to serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release.
