'Obsessed' sex offender lied about his background to get close to family with children.
Yeovil Sex Offender Jailed for Breaching Court Order
A Yeovil sex offender, David Reynolds (35), has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for repeatedly breaching the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Reynolds, of Goldcroft, was convicted in 2014 and subsequently issued with the order prohibiting him from contacting children. Despite this, he engaged in a pattern of deceptive behavior to establish a relationship with a family, including lying about his identity and background.
He developed an unhealthy obsession with one child in the family, making regular visits, buying gifts, and even having his photo taken with other children at an animal center.
While there was no evidence of inappropriate sexual behavior, Judge Paul Cook at Taunton Crown Court deemed Reynolds' actions to be a "very serious and persistent breach." He emphasized that Reynolds had "lied about his name and identity" and engaged in "predatory contact."
The judge acknowledged Reynolds' reflection on his actions during his time in custody but stressed the severity of the offenses, stating that they started shortly after a previous suspended sentence for a similar breach ended.
