Delivery Driver Jailed for 11 Years for Rape of Schoolgirl

Denis Kadena, 34, was sentenced to 11 years in prison with a four-year extended licence for the rape of a schoolgirl in Totton. The attack, described as a "horrific ordeal," left the victim afraid to go outside alone and significantly impacted her self-esteem. Kadena lured the girl to a secluded area in the back of his van, where he committed the crime.

In a statement read in court, the victim spoke of her fear and the lasting impact the assault has had on her life. She said, "Some days I just want to crawl under a table and hide. He took something special from me." She is currently working to rebuild her confidence and put the experience behind her.

Those close to the victim described her as "a frightened little girl" who now relies heavily on her phone for safety and struggles to be outside alone for extended periods.

Hampshire Constabulary conducted a thorough investigation, gathering evidence through witness statements, house-to-house inquiries, and extensive CCTV footage. The investigation, led by Detective Constable Marie Leather, uncovered Kadena's lies and ultimately brought him to justice. DC Leather commended the victim's bravery in reporting the incident and supporting the prosecution.

Judge Christopher Parker KC, sentencing Kadena, described his actions as "opportunistic" and "predatory." Kadena, who initially denied the charges, now acknowledges his responsibility for the crime.

The victim has been praised for her courage and strength in coming forward. Detective Inspector Claire Shawley stated, "If it wasn't for her bravery, then we would not have been in a position to achieve the result that we have. Kadena would still be out on the streets as a risk to others."
