Convicted Paedophile Breaches Court Order and Marries Woman with Young Daughter in Senegal

Donald Davies, 65, of Barry, has been sentenced to 10 months imprisonment after breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order by travelling to Senegal and marrying a woman he met on a dating website. Davies, who has a history of sexual offences against children, had been ordered to notify the authorities of any changes to his address or travel plans.

Davies was visited by monitoring officers on June 28, who were surprised to learn he had travelled to Senegal and married a woman he had met on an African dating website. He told the officers the woman had a young daughter who lived in another country. When Davies' phone was examined, it was discovered that he had a contact number for the daughter and had bought her a phone. He admitted to speaking to the daughter to provide advice.

Davies has previously prevented officers from looking at his phone, and on previous occasions he had breached the Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He had been sentenced to a six-year custodial sentence in 2010 for sexual activity with a child, and had also received a caution in 2006 for inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Sentencing, Judge Lucy Crowther said Davies had "shown an utter disregard for the rules". She added: "You knew perfectly well you should not have done what you did but you did it anyway."

Davies will serve half the sentence in custody before he is released to serve the remainder on licence.
