Convicted Paedophile Jailed Again for Failing to Notify Police of Address Change

A convicted paedophile has been sent back to jail after failing to notify police of his new address, marking his second breach of the Sex Offenders Register in a year. Dylan King, 30, was previously jailed in June 2022 after disappearing for seven months. He was eventually found living with a woman and her children, whom he had met on a dating app, without disclosing his criminal past.

King had not informed the woman about his conviction for sexual activity with a child under 16 years of age, which resulted in a two-year and three-month prison sentence in 2012. Upon discovering the truth, the woman expressed her anger and disgust.

The latest breach occurred when King moved without notifying police within three days of his new address, as required by the Sex Offenders Register. He claimed a Merseycare staff member had promised to inform the police, but the prosecution argued that King bears sole responsibility for complying with the notification requirements.

King's defense attorney argued that the breach was an unintentional act of forgetfulness, citing his client's mental health struggles. However, the court noted King's history of failing to comply with notification requirements, including his previous seven-month disappearance from Merseyside.

During that time, King had lived in Teesside with a woman and her children, none of whom were aware of his past. Although he admitted to having been in trouble with the law, he concealed the nature of his conviction. The court recognized the potential danger posed by King's actions, as he had been left alone with the children on numerous occasions.

While no evidence suggested any abuse against the children, the court acknowledged the serious risk he had presented. Judge David Aubrey, QC, sentenced King to one year in prison, highlighting the importance of complying with the notification requirements and the difficulty in determining whether the latest breach was intentional or accidental.
