Man Found Guilty of String of Sex Attacks in Camden

Francis Mukendi, 27, of Finsbury Park Road, has been found guilty of a series of sex attacks against six women in the Camden area. The attacks, which spanned from September 21, 2017, to December 16, 2019, followed a disturbing pattern.

The court heard that Mukendi would target women walking home alone late at night. He would approach them from behind, often while they were distracted by getting their keys out, and threaten them with a weapon. In some instances, he used a hammer, while in others he used a knife.

After the first attack, detectives from Central North BCU launched an investigation. A breakthrough came in December 2020 when a CCTV image of the defendant was released. Upon seeing the image, Mukendi turned himself in to the police the following day.

A search of Mukendi's home uncovered clothing that matched what was seen in the CCTV footage. His laptop, which contained a video of the first attack that he had attempted to delete, was also seized and examined by forensic experts.

Police also recovered a zombie knife and a lock knife, believed to have been used in the attacks.

Det Con Stacey Smith of Central North BCU said, "Mukendi is an extremely dangerous offender who targeted these women as they walked home alone in the dark. He waited for the most opportune of moments before making his attacks. His actions have left these women traumatized by what has happened to them."

Police are urging any further victims to come forward. They can speak directly with the police, quoting reference CAD1639/21MAR22, or contact the force through a third-party support group.
