Sex Offender Jailed for Abusing Two Girls, One Almost 50 Years Ago

Frederick Bowman, 73, has been sentenced to six years in prison for indecently assaulting two young girls in Manchester. The abuse, which took place over two separate periods – one dating back almost 50 years – was finally brought to justice thanks to the courage of his victims, now women, who reported the crimes to police.

Bowman, formerly of Ansell Close in Gorton, pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault against a girl under 13 between 1974 and 1976. He also admitted two counts of indecent assault on a second girl, also under 13, between 1996 and 2001.

The second victim came forward in February 2021, followed by the first victim in March 2021. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that Bowman was sentenced on March 3, 2023, at Manchester Crown Court.

Thanks to their bravery, we were able to bring Bowman to justice for his actions. I hope that despite the undoubtedly long-lasting effects of his abuse, these young women can get some sense of closure in the knowledge he has finally had to face the consequences of his actions before a court of law."
