Judge Issues Warning to Paedophiles: "Never Safe from Prosecution"

A judge has issued a stark warning to paedophiles, stating that they should never feel safe from prosecution, even years after their crimes have been committed. The warning came from Judge Robert Linford during the sentencing of Frederick Williams, 84, who was convicted of multiple sexual offenses against two victims, spanning four decades.

Williams, from St Clement near Truro, was found guilty of 15 indecent assaults, indecency with a child, and attempted rape. The abuse included sexual touching, penetration, oral sex, and forced touching of his penis.

During the sentencing hearing, victim impact statements revealed the profound and enduring impact of Williams' abuse. One victim described her ongoing struggles, including suicidal thoughts and an inability to look at herself in the mirror. The second victim stated that the abuse "broke her" and led to significant difficulties for herself and her children.

Despite the gravity of the offenses, the defense highlighted Williams' age, health, and lack of previous convictions. However, Judge Linford emphasized the systematic and repeated nature of the abuse, highlighting its devastating impact on the victims.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Linford stated: "People who sexually abuse young people should have sleepless nights wondering when the knock on the door will come." Williams was sentenced to 13.5 years in prison, with an additional year to be served on license. He must also register as a sex offender.
