Driving Instructor Jailed for Sexually Abusing Students

Gary Rolinson, a "predatory" driving instructor, has been jailed for four years after being found guilty of sexually abusing six boys during their driving lessons.

Rolinson, who ran the 500+ driving school in Kingswinford, abused the boys over a period of two years. The 60-year-old, now living in Llandrindod Wells, was convicted of 12 counts of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity.

One victim described how Rolinson would rub his legs to "congratulate" him for driving well or "squeeze" parts of his body if he "did something wrong." He added that the assaults left him feeling stressed and embarrassed, and that the lengthy legal process had been a burden on him and his family.

West Midlands Police described Rolinson as "a predatory offender" who told the boys they would not be believed if they reported the assaults. He has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Det Insp Sarah Booth said, "Some of the victims have also said that they felt embarrassed and that they didn't want to tell their parents, because they felt their parents would be upset because they had arranged Rolinson to be instructors for them."
