Violent Scots Rapist Jailed for Seven Years

George Newby, 32, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for two separate rapes against vulnerable women.

In August 2020, Newby assaulted a young woman in Edinburgh who lacked the mental capacity to consent. He repeatedly touched her inappropriately, pinned her to the floor, and ultimately raped her.

Just months later, in February 2021, Newby targeted another woman in Edinburgh who was intoxicated and asleep. He attempted to rape her, but was interrupted.

During sentencing, Lord Craig Sandison highlighted the serious nature of the crimes and stated that Newby poses a significant risk of further sexual offending.

Despite his denial of the crimes, Newby was sentenced to seven years in prison and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
