Repeat sex offender Gordon Brown, 69, is awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to indecent behavior towards a child.

Brown admitted to causing an older child to view sexually explicit images and communicating indecently with them between August 11th and 13th this year in Cumnock Road, Mauchline. Court documents state that Brown's conduct was intended for sexual gratification, humiliation, distress, or alarm to the victim.

Brown admitted sending sexually suggestive messages and attempting to meet the child in his car. His arrest in the Mauchline area followed an online sting operation by so-called "paedophile hunters" who contacted him through a decoy profile posing as a minor.

Procurator fiscal depute Craig Wainwright told the court that Brown was committed for further examination and remanded in custody after bail was refused. Wainwright detailed how Brown created a dating app profile using a picture of a young female child, claiming to be 20 years old. He repeatedly contacted the decoy profile, making sexually explicit comments and sending images of himself partially and fully nude.

Brown's actions were reported to police, and he confessed during an interview. His solicitor, John Gallagher, reserved any plea in mitigation pending criminal justice social work reports and a risk assessment. Sheriff Shirley Foran remanded Brown in custody until his next court appearance, where he will be subject to the sex offenders registration requirements.
