Teenager raped a woman in a bed after attacking her while he thought she was asleep.
A teenager has been sentenced to five years in a young offenders' institute for raping a woman.
Harvey Vincent, now 20, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court.
The court heard that Vincent had just turned 18 when he attacked the victim, who had previously told him no sexual activity would take place between them. He forced himself on her while she was asleep, but she was awake and frozen with fear.
The victim, who has lifelong anonymity, said in a personal statement that the rape "hurt more than the act itself." She said Vincent had "raped my mind and my body" and that she will never be able to trust someone like that again.
"I have gained strength from this and understood myself a lot more but I have changed, I am not the same person I was," she said.
The victim said she suffered night terrors and could no longer participate in contact sports due to the trauma she experienced.
Vincent was under the influence of cocaine and alcohol at the time of the attack.
In mitigation, defense barrister Marian Lewis said the case was "tragic" and that "two young lives have been blighted." She said the defendant was just 18 at the time of the offense and his "life had been destroyed."
Sentencing, Judge Paul Hobson found the victim suffered "severe psychological harm" and that Vincent's actions had "changed her life."
Vincent was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register indefinitely and was made subject to a restraining order for 10 years.
