Family Man Jailed for Child Pornography
A 33-year-old family man, Heath Colwyn, has been sentenced to nine months in prison for downloading and distributing child pornography. Colwyn was arrested in March 2005 after police investigating a West Midlands man discovered he had received images from Colwyn.
Upon searching Colwyn's home, police seized two laptops and 21 floppy disks containing a total of 488 indecent images of children aged 9 to 15 years. Of these, 277 were categorized as the lowest level of severity, while 89 were classified as serious, involving sexual activity with adults.
Emails found on one of the laptops indicated Colwyn had distributed images to other individuals with similar interests in the UK. Colwyn, an electrical engineer, pleaded guilty to 26 counts of making indecent images and five counts of distributing them.
Despite Colwyn's claim that his actions were not sexually motivated, Judge David Aubrey, QC, found this "difficult to accept," emphasizing that viewing such images perpetuates child abuse. Colwyn's defense argued that his isolation led to the offenses. His wife, with whom he shares a three-year-old son, remains supportive.
It's important to note that the offenses occurred two and a half years prior to sentencing.
