Sheriff Declines to Jail Voyeur Who Filmed Women and Children

A sheriff has decided against jailing a voyeur who secretly filmed up the skirts of fellow university students and used night vision technology to spy on children.

Iain Grant, a computer science student at the University of the Highlands and Islands, was found in possession of a stash of videos featuring a woman he had followed on foot on numerous occasions, discreetly filming her without her knowledge.

The court heard that Grant's actions were "deplorable" and "unacceptable," but the sheriff ultimately decided that a custodial sentence was not necessary.

Grant was instead given a community payback order, requiring him to perform unpaid work and attend a sex offenders program.

The decision has sparked outrage among some, who argue that the sentence is too lenient. Critics point to the seriousness of Grant's offenses and the potential for harm to his victims.
