Torquay Man Jailed for Voyeurism

Ian Buttrey, 39, from Torquay, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for secretly recording a female victim for his own sexual gratification. He was also placed on the sex offender register.

Exeter Crown Court heard that Buttrey used his mobile phone to record the young victim while she was naked. Police seized his computer and found evidence of his obsession with voyeurism, including searches for material related to his fetish.

Buttrey also secretly filmed another woman while she was undressed. One victim stated that his behaviour had a "huge impact" on her life, while the other suffers from anxiety, sleepless nights, and other negative consequences as a result of Buttrey's actions.

Buttrey pleaded guilty to making indecent images and four charges of voyeurism. Police arrested him in May 2020, and initial concerns about his mental state led them to notify his workplace to be vigilant for any unusual behavior. A mobile phone containing footage of the victims was subsequently found in a bin.

Buttrey has no prior criminal record.
