Former East Yorkshire Children's Home Head Faces Jail for Third Time After Child Abuse Conviction
James Carragher, 75, was found guilty of 21 counts of indecent assault and three serious sexual assaults at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday, according to Humberside Police.
A jury at Leeds Crown Court heard that Carragher had previously been jailed for seven years in 1993 and a further 14 years in 2004 for offenses committed at St William's, an approved school for boys with behavioral problems in Market Weighton, East Yorkshire.
Carragher served as principal of St William's, which was run by the Catholic De La Salle order, from 1976 to 1990.
The judge remarked, "I've never ever in many years of doing this had a jury who had to consider so many charges, it is way beyond the norm, and they are some of the most difficult charges to deal with."
Carragher, who had pleaded not guilty to 50 counts of indecent assault and 12 other serious sex offenses, was previously jailed for seven years in 1993 and 14 years in 2004 for sex offenses.
