Fire chief caught with child sex abuse images.

Retired Fire Chief Placed on Sex Offenders Register for Child Sex Abuse Images

Jamie McMurtrie, a former fire chief with 30 years of service in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, has been placed on the sex offenders register after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children.

Police raided McMurtrie's home on August 24, 2022, and discovered that he had downloaded the images to his mobile phone. McMurtrie, who retired from his position as crew manager in 2016, had been working as a Heritage volunteer with the fire service between June 2022 and June 2023.

The 58-year-old admitted to possessing the images at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month. He returned to court for sentencing on Thursday, where Sheriff Anderson imposed a six-month supervision order and a conduct requirement prohibiting McMurtrie from owning internet-capable devices without prior permission.

McMurtrie was also placed on the sex offenders register for six months and banned from having any contact with children under 18 unless authorized by his supervising officer.
