Dundee Man Faces Jail After Being Caught With Illicit Devices
A man described as one of Dundee's most high-risk child sex offenders has been told he faces jail after being caught with multiple illicit laptops and phones, even though police were unable to find any indecent images on them.
Serial offender Jamie Mullen, 37, appeared on indictment at Dundee Sheriff Court.
The court heard that Mullen had previously been convicted of child sex offences and was subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) which prohibited him from possessing devices capable of accessing the internet without notifying the authorities.
Despite this, police found multiple laptops and phones in his possession during a search of his home. While no indecent images were discovered, the devices were deemed to be in breach of the SOPO.
Mullen's lawyer argued that his client was not actively seeking out indecent images but was struggling with his addiction to pornography and had not notified the authorities about the devices.
The judge, however, expressed concern about Mullen's history and the fact that he had repeatedly breached the SOPO. He deferred sentence for background reports and warned Mullen that a custodial sentence was highly likely.
