Ex-squaddie raped 16 year old girl.
Rapist Jamie Whiller Jailed for Eight Years
Jamie Whiller, a 35-year-old former soldier, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for raping a teenage girl when she was 16 years old. The attack left the victim suffering from anxiety, stress, and insomnia.
The court heard that Whiller "forced" himself on the victim and had unprotected sex with her. The victim confided in her mother, who reported the abuse to the police.
Whiller initially denied rape, claiming the encounter was consensual. However, he later pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one other serious sexual offense.
During the sentencing, Whiller's defense attorney argued that he was remorseful for his actions and had been affected by the public backlash, including job loss and harassment.
Judge Paul Glenn, however, dismissed Whiller's claims of remorse, stating that his actions were "distasteful" and that he had taken advantage of a vulnerable young woman. The judge also pointed to the lasting psychological damage inflicted on the victim, who continues to suffer from anxiety, depression, and anger.
Whiller will serve two-thirds of his sentence before becoming eligible for release. He will also be placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely and barred from working with children or vulnerable adults.
