A taxi driver from Falkirk has been jailed for two-and-a-half years after sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman.

Jaswinder Singh, 51, attacked the victim in February 2024 while she was travelling home from a night out. Sheriff Maryam Labaki described Singh's actions as a "grave breach of trust," emphasizing that victims expect safe transportation when ordering a taxi.

Sheriff Labaki stated that the seriousness of the offence warranted a custodial sentence and sentenced Singh to 30 months in prison. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years and subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for the same duration.

Detective Sergeant Stewart Walton commended the victim's bravery in coming forward, highlighting her crucial role in bringing Singh to justice. He expressed hope that this outcome provides some sense of closure for the victim.
