Postgraduate theology student carried out sexual assaults on fellow students.
Former Theology Student at St Andrews University Charged with Sexual Assault
John Beaumont, a postgraduate theology student at St Andrews University, has been accused of sexually assaulting three fellow students under the pretense of conducting radiation testing for the Ministry of Defence following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
Beaumont allegedly subjected two male students and one female student to fake medical examinations. In one instance, he convinced a victim to sign the "Official Secrets Act" before inserting a needle into his genital area.
The university has confirmed that Beaumont is no longer enrolled as a student and is cooperating fully with the police investigation.
The incidents occurred in the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, a time when anxieties about radiation exposure were high.
Beaumont is currently facing multiple charges of sexual assault and is due to appear in court soon.
