35-Year-Old Man Faces Child Sex Offences Charges

A 35-year-old man, John Edward Iles, has appeared in Swindon Magistrates Court facing three child sex offences.

The charges against Iles include attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in penetrative sexual activity, attempting to cause a child to watch an image of sexual activity, and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

Prosecutor Nataline Cheeseman stated that Iles allegedly communicated online with a 13-year-old girl. However, the girl was actually a paedophile hunter from the group Justice for Innocence.

While Justice for Innocence did not conduct a sting operation on Iles, they provided evidence of his alleged illicit behavior to Wiltshire Police for investigation.

Due to the indictable nature of one offence and the interconnectedness of the remaining two, all three charges were sent to Swindon Crown Court.

Iles' solicitor, Terry McCarthy, indicated that guilty pleas would be entered.

The defendant, residing at Marlow Avenue, Swindon, was released on bail with conditions prohibiting unsupervised contact with children under 18 years old.

Supervised contact with children is permitted under the bail conditions, but the child's parent must be informed of the allegations against Iles.

Iles is scheduled to appear at Swindon Crown Court next month for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
